You will have to provide your own headphones and a set of leads for use on computers. You are advised to use your own instrument/drum breakables although we can provide amplifiers etc.
The Programme
In a normal week you will attend in the region of twenty sessions (some practical and some taught). You may also be expected to work outside college hours for rehearsal and performances. It is important that if you have a part time job that it is flexible and can fit around this. You will need to do written and research assignments. These vary from week to week depending on shows and deadlines.
The Programme Content
The course is split into 18 units or modules. The modules all relate to Music Practice, but some are aspects you may not have thought of. For example, you may study Group and Solo Performance, Recording, Sequencing, Composition, Research units, History of Pop Music, Music Theory, Aural/Listening Skills, and Music Business. The main aim of the programme is to produce performers who are capable of seeking work in a range of genres or performance venues (Theatre, Rock, Club, etc). Students will perform, produce written, recorded and sequenced work and Powerpoint presentations. The course is aimed at musicians who favour any style from Heavy Metal to Classical.
Progression / Careers
In the past, students from the BTEC National Diplomas at North Devon College have progressed to Higher Education at establishments such as Bath, Salford, TVU, Leeds and Cardiff. Now that we have Foundation Degrees at North Devon College you can continue performing to a higher level, without the stress and financial hassle of leaving home. Some students in the past have gone straight into the profession (one group were given a recording contract while still on the course).
