About this course
In addition to at least four GCSEs at grade C or above (including English) you will have to prove your interest in music and/or technology, and be comfortable using IT and related resources. The ability to play a musical instrument is a major advantage.

About the Course
You will study six units over two years,equivalent to one A Level.
Core Units:
Sound Recording Techniques
Offers you a comprehensive step towards solid practical experience of the different stages of recording. Starting with the capture of sounds into the recorder, you will then balance and mix sounds before finally producing a stereo master recording. Planning a Music Recording Involves working in a team to plan a recording session. Each team member will have a variety of clearly defined roles throughout the recording process.
Creating a Music Product
Involves working in teams to create an audio CD that demonstrates a variety of recording techniques. And YES - you can record your own songs!
Specialist Units: Audio Engineering
Will teach you about the technical specifications and terminology associated with studio equipment.
Music Technology in Performance
Looks at integrating computer-generated music with live performance, and offers you the chance to produce your own multi-media performance.
Operating Live Sound
Looks at the role of the live sound engineer, culminating in you operating sound reinforcement equipment for a performance.
You will be able to successfully complete each unit through practical activities, structured lessons and demonstrations, individual and group tutorials, performances and presentations. Our recently upgraded music department includes: a 24-track digital recording studio and live room; a comprehensive range of microphones; industry-standard FX and dynamics processors; a suite of 20 music workstation PCs including Reason, Cubase and Sibelius software; and portable digital multi-track workstations. So choose Music Technology if you want to: learn studio recording and mastering techniques; use computers to create music; learn how to set up and operate live sound equipment; perform and record your own music; and have a career in the music industry.

Assessment is by a combination of practical and written assignments. There are no exams.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
