About this course

- be able to read, write and play dotted and tied rhythms; on and off-beat rhythms
- read in bass clef notation
- be able to recognise, aurally, a variety of intervals
- work in the keys of D, A and Bb major
- hear shape and structure (form) in musical samples
- practise effectively.

Course programme

- Development of rhythm notation (to include dots and ties).
- Recognition and playing of rhythms. Introduction to bass clef. Singing and recognising more intervals.
- Expansion of familiar keys using the cycle of fifths, to include A, D, and Bb
- Listening for and understanding phrasing and form
- minor scales.

Emphasis on practical execution of ideas. Manuscript paper, pencil and rubber. You may record parts of the class to use as revision at home.
