What are the Course Details?
This Level 2 course helps learners to develop business and administration skills. In particular, social, practical and communication skills will be developed. The course also includes the use of a variety of computer software. This is a one year course.

This course will suit people with an interest in learning about business, administration and financial activities. This course is designed to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of business functions in a modern and practical way to equip learners to progress to a range of related courses, or to employment.
What will I Learn?
You will study a total of 6 units as follows:
Investigating Business
By completing this unit learners will show an understanding of business aims and objectives, types of business ownership and reasons for change, business organisational structure, stakeholder interests, methods of competing, choice of location and reasons for change.
Enterprise and Operations
How businesses identify opportunities, how they obtain support for new ventures and how they operate to ensure success.
Finance in Business
Discover how businesses source funding, set up and running costs, how they estimate potential sales and calculate profit margins. The function of profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and cash flow forecasts.
Communications in Business
Producing a range of business letters, memos, reports, e-mails, leaflets, advertisements and notices using ICT.
Office Administration
Learn the use of manual and computerised filing systems, how to record information, call and fax handling techniques, health and safety in the office, where to find help and advice about office administration.
Keeping Customers Happy
Identifying good customers service, and describing ways in which customers are protected by consumer law. Learners have to demonstrate sales skills, and review their performance.
How will I Learn?
Your learning will include a range of methods, for example, formal classroom teaching, group work, practical tasks, gathering evidence whilst out on work placement and visits to business organisations, information provided by visiting speakers, etc. You will develop practical skills/activities for assessment.
How will I be Assessed?
Your tutors will assess you, by continuous assessment. Your course tutor will monitor your progress throughout your course, and there will be tutorials to ensure that you are meeting the agreed targets and assignment deadlines. Your completed tasks will be presented to the External Verifier.
What Enrichments are Available?
If you do not achieve a C grade for GCSE English, then you have the opportunity to retake the course. We also offer Word/Text Processing as part of your business course. Functional Skills are also an essential part of your learning.
Are there any Trips or Visits?
Because this is an applied business programme, you will be expected to attend all of the visits to business organisations. Recent visits have included Manchester Airport, Cadbury World, Jaguar Cars at Birmingham, Southwell Racecourse, and Lincoln University Enterprise Day.
Is there any Work Experience?
Yes, you will go on 2 weeks work experience in the spring term, with a local employer. The experience will allow you to gain essential practical office skills, as well as enabling you to practice newly gained skills.
What can I Progress to?
This is a nationally recognised qualification, and learners who have successfully completed the course have progressed to employment, Apprenticeships, or Level 3 courses within the College.
Other Learner's Experiences;
Some learners have been offered full time, permanent employment at the end of their course with the organisation where they went on work experience. Others are currently on Level 3 programmes, including Business, ICT and Health and Social Care.
