National Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development

The BTEC National Diploma is a practical, work-related course that will provide you with an understanding of children's early development, care and education. You will complete projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities, as well as learn about the employment area related to care and education in the early years. This qualification carries a licence to practice for working with young children.

What will I be doing?
You will study a combination of specialist units and seven core units. The core units include:
  • positive relationships for children's care, learning and development
  • positive environments for children's care learning and development
  • promoting children's development
  • reflecting on and developing practice for children
  • safeguarding children
  • promoting children's rights
  • children's learning activities and play

How will I be assessed?
All units are internally assessed and graded, and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. An external examiner will come to the College to assess the quality of the work you produce.

Where do I go from here?
BTEC National Diplomas are valued by employers, colleges and universities. You could use this qualification to go on to do a degree or a BTEC Higher National Diploma in subjects such as Nursing, Teacher Training or Psychology. If you want to move into employment immediately, you could work in nurseries, hospitals and primary care trusts, or schools.
