National Diploma in Dental Nursing

A-Z Training Centre is a fully accredited NEBDN Training Centre. We offer National Diploma in Dental Nursing (NDDN) course which is based on the GDC registration requirements for dental nurses. It sets out the knowledge, skills behavioural requirements that should be developed and demonstrated.

The curriculum covers four domains of professional practice:

1. Clinical
2. Professional
3. Communication
4. Management and Leadership

The competencies for each domain are expressed in terms of learning outcomes.

The scope of the syllabus for dental nursing is very wide. The syllabus details those areas of knowledge and understanding which a dental nurse needs to develop in order to be able to practice competently:

Record of Experience (ROE)
The GDC requires training centres to carry out on-going assessment of the students training. The Record of Experience forms part of this assessment. The ROE comprises a portfolio of the candidates actual clinical experience based at a dental practice ably supervised by a GDC registrant (dentist and dental nurse mentors). ROE must be completed prior to entry to the examination. It is only available to students of NEBDN accredited training centers/practices at the request of tutors and, by purchasing it, a student reserves a place for a particular examination.

Practice visit and update to the workplace
As per the GDC and NEBDN guidelines we are required to visit the trainee in their workplace and carry out an observation of them working with their dentist and being given feedback. We will also brief to the practice representatives about the requirements.

The course tutor will contact trainees workplace mentor and centre will issue progress reports to the employer and update any issues such as poor attendance or falling behind with course work. The trainee, mentor/employer can discuss any concerns with the tutor or Centre Quality Assurance Coordinator at any time

Entry Requirements:
- Learners must be 18 plus preferably with equivalent to QCF level 2 qualification
- Learners need to be either in work placement or must find placement within 4 weeks of the enrolment
- Learners must demonstrate the competencies in English language if English is not their first language

Course Delivery and Assessment:
Students are required to attend seminars and formal classes along with their practical work placement. NEBDN constantly monitors and reviews the structure of the qualification and candidates are assessed on each part of the examination by the panel examiners, which will be verified by the National Examination Committee.

New Examination Format
It consists of both written and practical assessments

Part 1 (2hr written paper) 75 Multiple Choice Questions and 50 Extended Matching Questions. Only successful candidates will enter to the OSCE (Practical) stage which will be held after 6 weeks of the written test. Students who fail the written part of the examination will have the opportunity to re-sit the written section only at the following sitting

Part 2 (1hr practical section) consists of a series of practical tests known as Objective Structured Clinical Examinations or OSCE.
