Course programme

The National Diploma in Sports Massage & Injury Management is a post-graduate course taught part-time over a five month period.
The subject matter is as follows:

Classic & Advanced Massage Strokes► Towel Management / Client Positioning► Pre, Inter and Post Event Sports Massage► Sports/Athletic Massage Tecniques:► Muscle Energy Techniques (MET)► Soft Tissue Release (STR)► Connective Tissue Massage (CTM)► Friction► Trigger Point Techniques► Myofascial Release► Client Management► Care of the Therapist► Causes and Prevention of Sports Injuries
► Injury Assessment Techniques
► Sports Taping and Strapping for Common Injuries

Examinations will consist of one short answer/multiple choice paper (2 hours), two practical assessments (1.5 hours) and case studies. Thirty hours of Sports Massage treatments must also be logged outside of contact hours.

Who Can Apply?

The National Diploma in Sports Massage & Injury Management is a post-graduate course for fitness instructors, personal trainers, massage therapists and athletic strength and conditioning specialists.

School of Sport can only accept graduates who have received the required training in anatomy and physiology, nutrition and professional health screening. If you hold a non-School of Sport qualification please follow part (B) for applying.

Students of The National Diploma in Personal Training, Health Management and Team Fitness (School of Sport) can apply during or after their programme of training.

(A) School of Sport Graduates Require:
The National Diploma in Personal Training, Health Management & Team Fitness
The National Diploma in Athletic Strength & Conditioning

(B) Non School of Sport Graduates:

If you hold a qualification in Fitness Instruction, Personal Training, Massage Therapy or Strength and Conditioning from another
training body you can still apply for this course. The qualification you hold must have an anatomy, physiology and health
screening element.
Step 1: Email School of Sport with a list of your present qualifications, contact hours involved, dates awarded and training bodies.
Step 2: If these qualifications are provisionally approved by School of Sport you must then post copies of the qualifications
along with a copy of your passport or driving licence, a completed course application form and your course deposit of €400
to: Admissions, School of Sport, Kilkenny Road, Athy, Co. Kildare.

Additional information

Payment options: Option 1 Deposit of €400 which reserves student place on diploma course. Final Payment of €800 four weeks prior to course start date. Total Fee = €1,200 Option 2 Deposit of €400 which reserves student place on diploma course. Four payments of €225 by direct debit, starting four weeks prior to course start date. Total Fee = €1,300
