Course Aims:
This course is aimed at individuals who have an active interest in house building/DIY and, in particular, working with timber. The course will start with basic hand tool skills and will lead onto woodworking power tools and machinery skills. You will cover the necessary building regulations and procedures required for making an application for a building warrant and planning application. Drawing skills will also be developed.

This course will prepare you for entry to HNC Construction and provide an understanding of the role of a carpenter and joiner.

Course Assessment:
The course will be assessed via National Assessment bank units and by project based courses on a continuous assessment basis. External testing may be required for the CSCSS safety test.

Entry Requirement
Minimum of three Standard Grades at General Level 3 in technically appropriate subjects or successful completion of Intermediate 1, Level 4 course in appropriate area. All applications are subject to successful interview, those without formal qualifications but with relevant experience may be considered and candidates must have the capability to perform tasks to a safety critical industrial standard.
