Course information:
NCFE Level 2 Award in Safeguarding Children and Young People


Course summary:
The qualification is ideal for learners who work in an environment where there is direct contact with children and young people. This includes youth workers, care workers, local authority staff, school support staff and voluntary workers, together with anyone involved in meeting the Every Child Matters agenda.

Course content:
The programme consists of three mandatory units:

_ Unit 1: Explore and understand roles in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
_ Unit 2: Understand legislation and policies which safeguard children and young people
_ Unit 3: Develop personal skills to effectively contribute to the safeguarding of children and young people
Each unit contains tasks and activities designed to cover the specific learning outcomes.

Course structure:
In its simplest terms 'safeguarding' can be defined as 'keeping children safe from harm, such as illness, abuse or injury' and it is crucial that those working in any capacity with children and young people are able to ensure that they are protected from such harm.

Assessment procedure:
Candidates will be provided with the course materials for the programme and will be required to work through a series of tasks and activities designed to reinforce the learning process and test their knowledge. The course is assessed through an internally assessed portfolio in the form of a written assessment, and is suitable for college or workplace delivery.

This course will be useful to anyone working with children and young people, or who want to develop a career in this area. Having successfully achieved this qualification, the learner may wish to progress onto further qualifications which include:
