Course programme
This unique course is an opportunity to explore how technology is shaping fashion and the emerging field of fashion technology - from the way we make things to how we consume them. Technology is being used more commonly now in the fashion industry, and this course will give you the opportunity to experience first-hand some of the latest emerging technologies as well as examine the implications of these technologies on the way we live, design and learn in a hybrid digital-physical world. The technologies you will see include Virtual/Augmented Reality, programmable matter (robotics), connected objects (IoT), 3D printing and body scanning, and how they are influencing new generations of wearable designs and fashion products. The course includes:
- Introduction and hands on experience of Virtual Reality and implications for it’s applications for the fashion industry.
- Introduction to body and object scanning with opportunity of creating your own 3D body digital file to take away.
- Introduction to the ‘Internet of Things,’ exploring it’s application in fashion design and business as well as hands on demos of sensor
- networks from our Wearables Lab.
- Introduction to 3D printing techniques, implications for design and application across fashion and accessories.
- Discussion on digital strategy as well as applications and implications of technology in fashion.
Level:
Beginners. This is an introductory level course, so no previous experience is required. You should have an interest in the subject area and a desire to learn about emerging technologies for fashion.
