New Roads & Streetworks Act

This 5 day course is designed for candidates with limited or no experience, however some experience can be useful.

The 5 day programme for Operatives and Supervisors covering Units 001-006 & 009 for Operatives & 001 & 010-014 for Supervisors. We also offer scheduled courses for unit 002/010 Signing, Lighting and Guarding for those only requiring this part of the qualification.

What does the law say?

The New Roads and Streetworks Act requires that anyone who executes works for, or on behalf of a utility company, is qualified for the activities being carried out. Any streetworks site must have at least one qualified operative on site at all times during works, and the site must have a qualified supervisor appointed to the site who can oversee the works. The supervisor need not be on site at all times, but must be able to adequately carry out the role. The supervisor qualification does not replace or over rule the operative qualification and one person cannot cover both roles at the same time.

Operative units
• Unit 001 – Avoidance of underground apparatus.

• Unit 002 – Signing, lighting and guarding.

• Unit 003 – Excavation in the highway.

• Unit 004 – Reinstatement and compaction of backfill

• Unit 005 – Reinstatement of sub-base and road base.

• Unit 006 – Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials.

• Unit 007 – Reinstate Bituminous hot lay bituminous materials..

• Unit 008 – Reinstate ridged roads.

• Unit 009 – Reinstate modular surfaces and concrete footways.

Supervisors units

• Unit 001 - as above.

• Unit 010 – Monitoring of signing, lighting and guarding.

• Unit 011 – Monitoring of excavation in the highway.

• Unit 012 – Monitoring of reinstatement and compaction of backfill

• Unit 013 – Monitoring reinstatement of sub-base and road base in non-bituminous materials.

• Unit 014 – Monitoring reinstatement of bituminous materials.

• Unit 015 – Monitoring reinstatement ridged road.

• Unit 016 – Monitoring reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways.

Candidate’s that complete 3 mandatory units will be awarded a Streetworks card.
