The construction industry has had for many years a traditional apprenticeship programme covering the craft occupations. This framework will help to attract, retain and develop talent into a range of craft occupations at Intermediate (Level 2) and Advanced (Level 3) in construction building and provide progression to supervisory and management level in order to provide the industry with a well-trained productive workforce.

About this course
By the end of your apprenticeship you will have achieved:
Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations;
Level 3 Diploma in Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery;
Functional Skill in Maths Level 2 (if required);
Functional Skill in English Level 2 (if required);
Employee Rights and Responsibilities;
Personal Learning & Thinking Skills.
English Language GCSE Grade C or Functional Skill Level 2;
Maths GCSE Grade C or Functional Skill Level 2;
Having previously completed A Levels or an Intermediate Apprenticeship in Construction Building: Wood Occupations would be advantageous;
Working in a role such as a Site Carpenter, Bench Joiner, Shopfitter Bench Joiner or Wheelwright.

Course programme
Apprentices who follow the Site Carpentry and Shopfitting pathways can have a varied career working on new builds, refurbishments or in specialist areas. Bench Joinery apprentices will see a variety of wood products in production, depending on the company training. This apprenticeship will enable progression to:
- NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Contracting Operations;
- NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Construction Site Management.
After gaining work experience in the chosen occupational area there are also opportunities to progress into occupational work supervision, management or technical support areas or:
HNC/HND:
- Construction and the Built Environment;
- Construction;
- Construction Management.
Foundation Degree:
- Construction and the Built Environment;
- Construction Management;
- Conservation and Restoration.
Or full time employment.
Course Assessment Method
You will be assessed using a range of methods such as; Direct observation of tasks or activities, examination of work products produced by learners (e.g. diary notes, site notes, completed reports), examination of witness testimonies from people, other than the assessor, who are prepared to provide statements detailing specific details of learners’ performance, review of records of ‘question and answer’ sessions covering specific aspects of the knowledge and understanding and Professional discussion. All of these assessment methods will build your portfolio of evidence.
