About this course

- demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of the Book of Revelation;- demonstrate knowledge and appreciation of the Letter to the Galatians;- demonstrate an extended knowledge of the grammatical structures of Koine Greek.

- Texts: The Book of Revelation and the Letter to the Galatians. Recommended edition: either Greek New Testament, ed. by United Bible Societies, or Novum Testamentum Graece, ed. by Nestle and Alland (NA28), Stuttgart: Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft (German Bible Society), 2012.- Exercises for the revision of the grammar will be provided by the tutor. Recommended grammar book of reference(but any other grammar can be used): New Testament Greek: An introductory Grammar by Eric G. Jay (SPCK).ISBN: 0281028060.

Course programme

We will finish reading The Book of Revelation (please check with the tutor through the Classical Languages and Civilisations Department for the exact point to start at); subsequently we will move on to the Letter to the Galatians. The course also includes grammar revision.


Whole class work; reading and translating NT texts, tutor posing questions and answering questions
raised by the students. General discussion on language, style, theme, background points etc. Students should if possible prepare a portion of the text before each class. About 20 minutes will be devoted to grammar instruction and exercises. Homework: 2-3 hours per week.
