About this course
Applicants must have at least 3 GCSEs at grade C and above including Maths and English.A satisfactory reference is also required.All applicants will undergo a rigorous selection procedure - these will include a formal interview by the Course Tutor and Curriculum Area Manager, and a combination of written and practical assessments.

Course Details
Training will be carried out in the Images salons with work placements in local Hairdressing establishments at various times of the year.
Each Apprentice is sponsored by North Lindsey College and receives a performance related payment each term with a bonus payment at the end of the course on successful completion of all training requirements.
What will I Learn?
You will study on the NVQ 2 Hairdressing - this will include units such as:
- Ensure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
- Give a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
- Advise and consult with clients
- Cut hair using basic techniques
- Shampoo and condition hair and scalp
- Style, dress & finish hair using basic techniques
- Promote additional products/services
- Develop & maintain your effectiveness at work
Units are subject to change.
Learners will also study the Level 2 Certificate in Nail treatments which will include:
- Manicure
- Pedicure
- The Diploma in Health, Safety, Security and Employment Standards
Learners will also undertake Functional Skills training and assessment appropriate to the requirements of the course. These may include:
- Communications
- Application of Number
- Information and Communication Technology
How will I Learn?
The course is delivered by professional staff who possess both vocational and educational qualifications to a high level and have a wealth of experience gained in employments that enable them to relate theory to practice.
Learning takes place in 'Images', North Lindsey College's purpose built and well-equipped salons. As such, learners are required to a wear salon uniform appropriate to the session. Kits for Hairdressing and Nail treatments will also need to be purchased. (Lists of uniform, kits and costs will be provided).
Learners will build portfolios of evidence throughout the course and therefore will require materials such as basic stationery, lever arch files and dividers.
How will I be Assessed?
Assessment is carried out over the period of the course by means of practical observations, oral questioning and written questions set by the awarding bodies.
What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to various activities within the college to develop and broaden their experience of college.
Are there any Trips or Visits?
Trips and visits do not form part of this course, but learners will benefit from guest speakers and input from company suppliers in the industry.
Is there any Work Experience?
There will be related work experience in local salons during holiday periods e.g. October half term, Christmas, February half term and Easter. (Specific dates to be confirmed.)
What can I Progress to?
Successful completion of the course will provide the opportunity to progress to employment in the industry and to NVQ 3 Hairdressing which may include a work based learning programme.
