Course Content:
The qualification is competence based and is divided into easy to manage units. There are 4 units in total, 2 compulsory and 2 optional. These units include the following: Carry out your responsibilities at work; working within your business environment; deal with visitors, using a telephone, operating office equipment, dealing with the post. You will also study for additional qualifications in IT, word processing, literacy and numeracy.

Other Information:
The NVQ part of the course is assessed through completion of a portfolio of evidence collected from a long-term period of unpaid work experience. This opportunity is arranged by the college to suit individual student needs. The IT and word processing qualifications are assessed through assignments and external examinations. After initial assessment students may be offered additional support. If you are 16-19 you must also take part in the Curriculum 2000 programme and this will be additional hours to the normal programme. Relevant work placements will take place in the 2nd and 3rd terms.

Progression:
Successful students have progressed to NVQ Business and Administration level 2, or further study in relevant areas. A number of our students have been offered paid employment following their work experience and continued with the next level by attending our Flexi programme held in the evening.
