NVQ 3 in Care

Course Content:
There is a wide choice of content for the revised NVQ 3 awards and students will be able to select those which most closely fit their area of care practice. Compulsory units are as follows. Developing professional effectiveness; Promoting diversity, equality and rights; Effective communication skills; Health, safety and security; Protecting individuals from abuse. This course will also offer opportunities to study underpinning knowledge for a range of the other units available at level 3. You will be offered the opportunity to discuss your requirements in more detail as part of the application process.

The course is suitable for experienced care workers in residential care, or other supported living situations, and for those who work in settings which offer short or long term support to service users. Examples include working with elders, people with learning disabilities, mental health difficulties and physical or emotional needs. You should ideally be working in a care situation where you have a certain amount of responsibility which will enable you to undertake the necessary assessment activities. Most assessment takes place through direct observation of performance in the workplace supported by oral questioning and candidates are responsible for building their portfolios of evidence.

Progression:
Successful students have progressed onto NVQ 4 in Care, the Care Managers Award or to Nurse Training. Others have chosen to further their career through employment opportunities.
