Course programme

This qualification is within the Diploma range of credit.


Learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits to gain the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England. To do this they must achieve:

  • 28 credits from the mandatory units
  • A minimum of two credits and a maximum of seven credits from the optional knowledge/specialist context units
  • A minimum of 23 credits from the optional competence units

You can choose the general pathway (adults) or you can choose a more specialised pathway such as Dementia or the Learning Disability Pathway.

Dementia Pathway:

Learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits to gain the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England. To do this they must achieve:

  • 28 credits from the mandatory units
  • Four credits from the mandatory knowledge Unit 13: Understand the Process and Experience of Dementia
  • A minimum of two credits and a maximum of four credits from the optional knowledge/specialist context units
  • Four credits from a choice of competence units in Dementia care (1 unit)
  • A minimum of 19 credits from the optional competence units

Adults with Learning Difficulties Pathway:

Learners must achieve a minimum of 58 credits to gain the Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England. To do this they must achieve:

  • 28 credits from the mandatory units
  • Four credits from mandatory knowledge Learning Disabilities unit, Unit 22: Understand the Context of Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities
  • A minimum of three credits and a maximum of five credits from the optional knowledge/specialist context units
  • A maximum of five credits from a choice of competence Learning Disabilities units (one unit)
  • A minimum of 23 credits from the optional competence units

Either way the course should take around 12 months.

To be fully eligible for this course, please ensure you follow the set criteria below:

  • You are 24 + years old
  • This is your first level 3 qualification
  • You work for a small company (less than 250 employees)

Additional information

Payment options: This course is completely funded, so long is this is your first level 2 qualification then you will be fully funded. Additionally your course will have additional options in Literacy & Numeracy.
