NVQ Level 2 Retail Operations

This qualification is suitable for those working within the retail sector – especially sales assistants. To achieve the award, candidates must complete 1 mandatory unit and 5 optional units.

Mandatory Units

Candidates must achieve all of the following units:

Unit E6 Contribute to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace
Unit E12 Contribute to keeping the workplace secure
Unit E13 Work effectively in own organisation

Optional Units

Candidates must achieve five of the following units:

Group 1: Stock storage and order processing

Unit B3 Receive goods and materials into storage
Unit B5 Put goods and materials into storage
Unit B8 Keep stock on sale at required levels
Unit B11 Process orders for goods
Unit B12 Process returned goods and materials
Unit B13 Place orders to meet customer demand

Group 2: Preparing products for sale

Unit B14 Process donated goods for resale or recycling
Unit B15 Prepare products for sale to customers
Unit B16 Process bake off products for sale
Unit B17 Process fish and shellfish for sale
Unit B18 Process greengrocery products for sale
Unit B19 Finish meat products by hand
Unit B20 Generate images for official documentation
Unit B21 Copy and modify photographic images using a digital print station

Group 3: Merchandising and selling goods

Unit C2 Display stock to promote sales to customers
Unit C3 Help customers to choose products
Unit C4 Maximise product sales
Unit C5 Provide information and advice to customers
Unit C6 Demonstrate products to customers
Unit C7 Process part exchange sales transactions
Unit C8 Process payments for purchases
Unit C9 Process payments and credit applications for purchases
Unit C10 Control cash and credit transactions
Unit C11 Assemble products in customer’s home/workplace
Unit C12 Promote loyalty schemes to customers

Group 4: Customer services - A maximum of two units from this group can count towards the qualification. The others may be taken voluntarily as additional units but will not count towards the Retail Operations NVQ.

Group 5: Hygiene and goods movement
