What is the course about?
The following course can be studied part-time, to enable students to gain a recognised qualification and work in the industry. The medical profession is increasingly willing to recognise the real benefits of complementary therapies. This course will appeal to: Beauty therapists, members of the caring professuions e.g. nurses, medical auxillaries, practitioners in complementary therapies, memebers of the health and leisure industries.
This is a modular course covering the following:-
·The systems of the body: muscular, neurological, skeletal, vascular lymphatic, digestive, genito-urinary, resiratory and endocrine.
·Structures and functions of skin types
·Cells and tissues
·Psychological effects of massage
·Six classical massage movements
·Hygiene and sterilisation
·Health and safety
·History, theory, definition and development of aromatherapy
·Essential oils/carrier oils
·Dangers of overdosage and safety
·Aromatherapy massage techniques - using pre-blended oils
·Business Studies
·Indian Head Massage
·Providing Threading Depilation
Are there any additional requirements?
Materials: Students are required to purchase a text book and provide towels, massage medians
Uniform: It is essential that a suitable professional navy uniform and shoes are worn on the course.
Other: Candidates will need to provide a model on a number of occasions for practical assessments.

How will you be assessed?
A range of assessment methods will be used including: Observation of practical skills - Oral questioning and written evidence. Plus an external paper. Continual assessment is carried out by an VTCT assessor/Tutor. For assessment purposes at least
80% attendance is required.
