City & Guilds Installing and Commissioning Electrotechnical Systems
Attendance
One night per week by appointment. Candidates will be allocated a time with their tutor/assessor.
Duration
The acquisition of this qualification is unrelated to time. This course is a two year programme .
Description of the Course
This course is designed for students who wish to obtain the NVQ Level 3 qualification for the completion of their training. The qualification is also a requirement of the Joint Industry Board for those wishing to be graded as a technician or an electrician.
Course content
Candidates are required to complete projects using evidence from jobs that they have carried out in their place of work. Each unit will normally consist of three projects and there are 8 units.
Ensure safe electrical site working
Prepare to install electrical wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
Install electric wiring systems, wiring enclosures and equipment
Connect wiring systems and equipment using safe and approved methods
Inspect, test and commission an electrical installation
Diagnose and correct electrical faults
Provide technical and functional information to relevant people
Maintain a healthy and safe working environment
Assessment
Portfolio of work based evidence. Observation in the workplace. Written and oral questioning.

Those already working in the industry wishing to gain this qualification to achieve JIB grading.
