Is this course for me?

This course explores current and future engineering practices and provides you with the foundation requirements for an apprenticeship and other national training programmes. Subjects covered include: working safely in an engineering environment, making components using hand and fitting techniques, machining and wiring and testing electronic circuits.

What will I study?

This course explores current and future engineering practices and provides you with the foundation requirements for an apprenticeship and other national training programmes.

Subjects:

• Working safely in an engineering environment
• Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
• Using and communicating technical information

These are optional subjects:

• Fitting using hand skills
• Machining engineering materials
• Wiring and testing electrical circuits

What can I do next?

This can lead to the C&G2330 Level 2 Certificate in Electrotechnical Technology or to an apprenticeship. You can also enter directly into employment as a semi-skilled engineer.

This can lead to employment in:

• Mechanical engineering services industry
• Apprenticeship /Advanced Apprenticeship
• Electrical engineering
• Electrical installation

What are the entry requirements?

You will need to take an aptitude test and attend an interview

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through practical assignments and externally set short answer examinations. Students will meet regularly with their personal tutor to discuss progress and to plan their studies. Additional support, help and guidance is also available from the Guidance Team or from our Study Buddies.
