The Level 3 NVQ includes a wider variety of tasks than Level 2, and learners are expected to have greater responsibility and work with a degree of autonomy.This NVQ is designed for those people who are involved in delivering physical, emotional or enabling care to clients who have a high degree of dependency, whether in health or social care, or in the public, private or voluntary sectors. It is applicable wherever care is delivered including hospitals, accident and emergency departments, the client’s own home, clinics, residential homes, nursing homes, day centres and group homesThis NVQ is also designed for individuals who work with multidisciplinary teams and who may be providing support to other staff from a range of different disciplinary backgrounds. It is particularly relevant to roles such as: •care assistants – community care worker•community support worker – day care assistant•day care officer – family aide•health care assistants – healthcare support workers•home care assistant – home care organiser•nursing assistant – rehabilitation worker•residential worker – sensory impairment worker•social care officer – team support workers The focus of this NVQ is carrying out tasks for people that may be temporarily or permanently unable to do for themselves. It reflects medium to high levels of dependence and a number of specialist interventions, including undertaking clinical activities, enabling clients to manage their financial affairs, obtaining and testing blood samples, supporting individuals as they die and representing an individual’s interests when they are unable to do so. Candidates must complete four mandatory units and then choose 4 optional units from a set of 116.

Assessment
Assessment of all NVQs is through submission of a portfolio of evidence and professional discussion, to demonstrate that the requirements are met at the relevant standard
