Description of the Course
The NVQ Care level 4 meets the occupational competence requirements defined by the sector skills council, and care competence laid down within the Care Standards Act 2003. This qualification is aimed at those working with adults in the health and social care sector at manager, deputy manager or senior team leader level.
Course content
The Level 4 qualification contains four mandatory units and four optional units:-

Mandatory Units

· HSC41: Use and Develop methods and systems to communicate, record and report
· HSC42: Contribute to the development and maintenance of health and safe practices in the working environment
· HSC43: Take responsibility for the continuing professional development of self and others
· HSC45: Develop practices which promote choice, well-being and protection of individuals

Selection of Optional Units

· HSC411: Manage a service which achieves the best possible outcomes for the individual
· HSC412: Ensure individuals and groups are supported appropriately when experiencing significant life events and transitions
· HSC415: Produce, evaluate and amend delivery plans to meet individual needs and preferences
· HSC416: Develop, implement and review care plans with individuals

Learning Methods
Workshop, class discussion, group work, directed study and work placement. Candidates correspond with their assessors between visits, workshops, via email, post and other communication methods for support and submission of product evidence that is ready for assessment.

Assessment
You will be assessed throughout your course and evidence may be generated from the following sources:

· Observation at workplace by your assessor
· Statements by your line managers or colleagues
· Documentation to show systems that you have initiated and how they are monitored
· Records of training that you have organised/delivered
· Personal log or diary that records important events that you have managed and reflected upon

Who is the course for?
This course focuses on the task of managing a care service and is the correct level for senior team leaders or deputy managers who wish to achieve a management qualification.
Entry requirements
Candidates should be working in a management role within the care provision and would normally hold a NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
What can I do after this course?
Options include further level four courses, such as the Leadership & Management for Care Services (LMCS) , Diploma in Nurse Training, Higher Education or Vocational Assessor Award.
