The course is designed to enable you to:

• Develop your knowledge and understanding of the business sector
• Develop your ability to work independently and effectively
• Progress into either work or onto further study at higher level

Is it for me?
The course suits those who enjoy doing coursework and who are prepared to produce some quite in-depth work. The course is equivalent to 4 GCSEs and is mainly coursework based.
What you will do on the course:
Communication in Business
This looks at firms' internal and external communication methods and focuses on the development of communication technology. Part of the assessment of this unit is by an oral presentation.
Investigating Business
This unit is an investigation of a particular business - its stakeholders, ownership, competitors and location
Finance in Business
This unit is a case study of a small business looking at costs and revenues, break even and the documents that the firm should use to keep track of its finances.
Promotion in Business
Based on an actual business, this unit looks at the purpose and methods of promotion that the firm uses to increase its sales. You will recommend a promotion campaign for the firm and explain how you would analyse its effectiveness. Enterprise and Operations
In this unit you will go through the process of setting up a business based on your own ideas. You will investigate the possible demand for your business and then determine how your product or service will be marketed. You will also consider quality, finance and the possibility of employing staff. Part of the assessment of this unit is a presentation of your plan to a key stakeholder.
Business and Enterprise in Europe
This looks at the role and influence of the EU and the patterns of trade within it. You will also look at how a particular firm sells in more than one country.
Progression
Students achieving a merit or distinction grade will be able to progress to advanced level courses. This course also develops skills and understanding relevant to a very wide range of employment opportunities.
