Receive training for Dental Nurses in the field of Orthodontics. Students will learn the techniques and receive training in order to improve their effectiveness as an Orthodontic nurse. Students will practice how to cast models, handling and taking impressions, fitting and adjusting orthodontic appliances, and other related operations. Classes are held on Saturdays for three hours over six months. Upon completion of this course students will be better prepared for work as an Orthodontic Nurse.

About this course
To train qualified and registered DCPs, working in orthodontic practices and who wish to pursue career in orthodontic nursing.
Qualified and registered dental nurses working in orthodontic dental practices. Some experience in orthodontic chairside would be beneficial.
To be eligible for the course you must:
-Hold a recognised Dental Nursing Qualification
-Be registered with the General Dental Council
-Have support of your employer to support you in completion of the record of experience
-commit to 100% attendance on the given course dates
-Be able to meet the clinical requirements for the record of experience
It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure they have access to the clinical requirements of the record of experience, this will not be provided on the course
Informal chat/ interview, along with submission of relevant documents like GDC registration certificate, supporting letter from your employing orthodontists etc.

Course programme
This course is aimed at dental nurses who assist in orthodontic procedures.
The course will run on Saturdays.
The sessions include all the theoretical instruction and practical guidance needed to fulfil the NEBDN syllabus.
Additional individual appointments may be necessary for support in the production of the Record of Experience
The AwardIn order to achieve the award you will have to successfully complete: -
- A written paper
- A Record of Competence
This is designed to provide a record of activities completed to facilitate specific learning experience.
To enable you to complete your record of experience you must: -
PART A
Complete Log sheets for 50 patients
PART B
Complete TWO case studies of approximately 2000 words
PART C
Evidence of Competence. Complete assessment sheets for:
a) Clinical Photography
b) Cephalometric tracing, Digitisation and Measurement
c) Taking and Handling of Impressions
d) Casting of models
e) Fitting and Adjustments of Orthodontic Appliances
The Record of experience will need to be completed and submitted to the exam board approximately 4 weeks before the examination.

- Part A – 45 multiple choice questions (MCQ)
- Part B – 30 extended matching questions (EMQ)
