This 12 hour course normally runs over 2 days and includes the following topics: Introduction to first aid for childcares Introduction to first aid for childcares Care of the unconscious casualty Dealing with an epileptic fit, shock and anaphylactic (allergic) emergencies Resuscitation including CPR for children and babies What to do if a child or baby is choking Control of bleeding including nosebleeds Common childhood emergencies e.g. asthma and head injuries Burns and scalds. Suitable for: The course is designed for individuals who work with young children such as nurseries, after-school clubs, crèches and childminders. It is designed to meet the requirements of OFSTED under the guidance issued by DfES effective from April 2004. All childminders in England and Wales are required to have a valid early years first aid qualification preferably upon registration if not within six months of receiving their registration certificate. This course may also be used to provide evidence to an NVQ assessor for those working towards an NVQ in Child Care and Education (level 3).

Course programme
The course is designed for individuals who work with young children such as nurseries, after-school clubs, crèches and childminders. It is designed to meet the requirements of OFSTED under the guidance issued by DfES effective from April 2004. This course may also be used to provide evidence to an NVQ assessor for those working towards an NVQ in Child Care and Education (level 3). This comprehensive 12 hour course is delivered on your premises on days that work best for you, mid-week or weekends.
This 12 hour course normally runs over 2 days and includes the following topics:

Recording accidents and incidents.
Planning for first aid emergencies.
Dealing with emergencies.
Resuscitation procedures appropriate to the age of children being cared for.
Recognising and dealing with shock.
Recognising and responding appropriately to anaphylactic shock.
Recognising and responding appropriately to electric shock.
Recognising and responding appropriately to bleeding.
Responding appropriately to burns and scalds.
Responding appropriately to choking.
Responding appropriately to suspected fractures.
Responding appropriately to head, neck and back injuries.
Recognising and responding appropriately to cases of poisoning.
Responding appropriately to foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses.
Responding appropriately to eye injuries.
Responding appropriately to bites and stings.
Responding appropriately to the effects of extreme heat and cold.
Responding appropriately to febrile convulsions.Recognising and responding appropriately to the emergency needs of children with chronic medical conditions: such as epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell anaemia, diabetes, meningitis and other serious sudden illnesses.
