The Paediatric First Aid course will help the candidate deal with a medical emergency involving a child or infant. The candidate will learn when to summon help, how to place a casualty in the recovery position or commence resuscitation in as required. Particular attention will be paid to common child relative scenarios such as choking, simple cuts and grazes along with lumps and bumps. Candidates will also learn how to recognise and deal with the more serious types of injury, including fractures, burns and look at basic management of bleeding in conjunction with shock. Common medical conditions will be discussed, along with the importance of monitoring the casualty whilst waiting for help, keeping safe and the reporting of incidents.
