Engaging with painting as a ‘live’ process This course looks at how paintings being made from observation may be developed through careful analysis of the paint surface. By weighing up the strengths and weaknesses of the paint's application, the course proposes that strategic decisions can be made about how best to advance the image in terms of quality, intensity, velocity and scale of mark in addition to choice of technique and palette. Knowing how to read a paint surface will prompt surprising developments in your paintings and ultimately more wide ranging interpretations of your source material.
