Course programme

Palliative care concerns maintaining or supporting quality of life for care receivers as much as possible near the end of their lives, as well as supporting families. Techniques cover both pain management and psychological and spiritual support. This course will equip participants with an understanding of this difficult but ultimately positive aspects of caring. The course has been designed with regard to the National Council for palliative Care's aims and guidelines, and participants are issued with various ducuments to aid learning during the course (e.g. for group and class discussion) and after.

The learning outcome following this course participants will: be able to describe the choices of care available at the end of one's life; factors which can lead to unnecessary removal to a hospital and how to mitigate these factors; understand a variety of pathways and frameworks constituting best practise; understand the vital issues of dignity; relevance of the Care Standards Acts 2000.
