A2 SociologyCourse Outline
A2 Sociology encourages students to examine the relationship between the personal and the social, particularly in terms of the development of an individual?s identity with respect to gender, ethnicity, class, age, locality and nation. Because the course includes both contemporary as well as more traditional topics in Sociology it is suitable for students from a wide variety of age groups and prior educational backgrounds, including those engaged in lifelong learning. The course may be studied on a full and part time basis.

Entry requirements
You will require a pass grade in AS Sociology. Please note that AS/A level may be studied simultaneously.

What will I study?
The A2 course consists of three units: SOC4 Social Control - Crime and Deviance; Politics, Power & the State and Mass Media. SOC5 Applied Sociological Research Methods. SOC6 Society Today - Wealth & Poverty; World Sociology and Social Divisions.

How will I be assessed?
The assessment will include 3 examinations which can be taken in January and June.

Career Opportunities & Progression
The course will provide a suitable foundation for other related areas of study, for example caring, business studies, marketing, management or media. It also prepares students for future employment and Higher Education.
