You will not be able to attend this class if we do not have the required information before the class starts.

Qualification gained: This course does not lead to a formal qualification.

Course Content: The aim of the course is personal satisfaction and enjoyment through exercise. Learners will acquire the basic tap technique and a solid grounding of steps which may be developed further if required. Each lesson will commence with a warm up and (after a couple of weeks) a step recap. Specific steps will be taught. These initial steps form the base from which all future steps develop. Names of steps will be taught and the steps combined to start the process of making a sequence. Accent, syncopation and different rhythms will be discussed, taught and used in free work. Learners will work in whole class groups and smaller groups (not less than 3 in a group). All classes will be determined by the progress of the learners and if necessary previous weeks' contents will be covered again until the learners are happy with their achievement. Fun is a key element, therefore, it is important that learners do not feel pressurised into having to practise hard at home. If learners are not able to master a step in 1 or 2 lessons then it will be incorporated into as many lessons as is required, helping to reach a good level of achievement and personal satisfaction. Notes, where applicable, will be issued as an aid for learner use.

Work Experience: Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.

Course Assessment: Progress on this course will be tested through observation, peer and lecturer feedback.

Progression: Learners can progress to the intermediate class.

Homework: Homework is not essential but learners will benefit from undertaking home study (practising) of approximately 1 hour per week.

Additional Costs: There are no additional costs attached to this course.
