Course Overview Learners will be given the opportunity to continue to develop tap dance technique, adding new styles and step knowledge. Learners need to bring the following to the first class: tap shoes, suitable exercise clothing and a drink. Please enrol early for this course as all learners will be required to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ) on enrolment. You will not be able to attend this class if we do not have the required information before the class starts.

Qualification gained: This course does not lead to a formal qualification.

Course Content: The aim of the course is personal satisfaction and enjoyment through exercise. Learners will continue to develop their tap technique, learn new styles and increase step knowledge. Each lesson will commence with a warm up and basic step recap. Specific steps will be taught, to be included in the free work and sequences when mastered. However options will always be given to cater for differing rates of learning/physical limitations. Turns will be included (if applicable) and used with steps as well as turning some of the steps. Different rhythms will be used, experimented with and made up. Learners will make up short phrases in small groups. All classes will be determined by the progress of the learners and, if necessary, previous weeks' contents will be covered again until learners are happy with their achievement. Fun and Enjoyment are key elements and therefore it is important that learners do not feel pressurised into having to practise hard at home. If learners are unable to master a step in 1 or 2 lessons, then it will be incorporated into as many lessons as required, helping gain a good level of achievement and personal satisfaction. Notes, where applicable, will be issued as aides for learner use.

Work Experience: Learners do not need to be in relevant work to undertake this course.

Course Assessment: Progress on this course will be tested through observation, peer and lecturer feedback.

Progression: Learners can progress to other styles of dance.

Homework: Homework is not essential but learners will benefit from undertaking home study (practising, etc )of approximately 1 hour per week.

Additional Costs: There are no additional costs attached to this course.
