Advanced Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles

Course Details

The Apprenticeship comprises of a framework of four qualifications: 1. Competence Based Element - Driving Goods Vehicles Level 3 NVQ 2. Technical Certificate - Edexcel Level 3 Certificate in Road Freight Logistics BTEC 3. Key Skills - Communication Level 2 and Application of number Level 2 or Functional Skills - Maths Level 2 and English Level 2 The decision on which competence based and knowledge elements will be studied will be made by the employer and/or training provider in discussion with the apprentice. For Apprentices following the Driving Goods Vehicles Framework, employed status is the preferred route. Employed status means that the Apprentice is directly employed by an employer and is on their payroll.

Qualifications required:
There are no formal entry requirements for this Framework. An Advanced Apprentice may commence this Advanced Apprenticeship at age 16, but in practice employers tend to prefer apprentices to be age 17 and or above and to already hold the Category B (car) Driving Licence . Apprentices will fall into three groups relating to their licence status as they join the Advanced Apprenticeship/Modern Apprenticeship. The first group will already possess a Category C or C+E Driving Licence and will need no further licence related training and assessment during their apprenticeship. The second group will already have a Category C Licence, but as part of their development within the apprenticeship, be working towards the C+E licence. The third group will have neither licence and be working initially to the Category C licence as part of their apprenticeship. This group will be required to complete the two post test driving assessments as part of their framework.Advanced Apprentices must be employed status and paid a wage.

Course length:
This depends on individual circumstances and experience but most apprentices will complete the framework within 12-18 months.

Venue:
The Programme is delivered in the candidate's workplace.

Start Date:
The Programme may be started at any time of the year.

Course hours:
This is a work-based qualification and the contact hours are negotiated between the Assessor and the Candidate.

Progression:
There are opportunities for Advanced Apprentice to progress and gain wider experience within the logistics sector through team leading, management, or moving in to traffic operations. There are courses and training opportunities for heavy goods vehicle drivers transporting goods with particular characteristics that require specialist skills.
