There are no formal entry requirements; however, learners would benefit from a general level of education at Level 1 (NVQ1/GCSEs grades D-G) or above.

Suitable For

This qualification is applicable for anyone at work, whether full-time, part-time or voluntary, who do not have specific responsibility for health & safety issues.

Course Content

This qualification aims to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of health & safety issues. It supports the development of health & safety competence, and promotes and health & safety culture.

You must complete two mandatory units and six optional units.

Mandatory units:

• Unit 1: An introduction to health & safety legislation in the workplace
• Unit 2: Hazards, risks & assessment

Optional units:

• Unit 3: Manual handling - people
• Unit 4: Manding handling - objects
• Unit 5: Electricity at work
• Unit 6: Using the COSHH regulations
• Unit 7: The health & safety aspectes of using display screen equipment
• Unit 8: Fire safety in the workplace
• Unit 9: Using PUWER in the workplace
• Unit 10: Using PPE in the workplace
• Unit 11: Using LOLER in the workplace
• Unit 12: Health & safety training in the workplace
• Unit 13: The provision of first aid in the workplace .

Method of Assessment

Learners will be assessed via:

• Multiple-choice examination
• Coursework
• Practical demonstration
• Assignment.
