Assess Candidates Using Range Methods A1 Award
This course replaces the old TDLB D32, D33 and D36 Units. This qualification will allow successful candidates to assess National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). Candidates can achieve this status by showing that they are able to assess someone for a NVQ in a type of work where they are competent. The Assessor Award A2 will allow successful candidates to assess students using a range of methods using observation of performance, assessment of differing forms of evidence and the use of the accreditation of prior process.
Course Content:
Sufficient occupational competence to be an assessor is defined as either: You should have held a post for a minimum of one year, within the last two years, which involved performing the activities defined in the standards as an experienced practitioner. Or: You should be an experienced trainer or instructor of at least one years standing in the competence area of standard. For both these routes, you should also be able to demonstrate updating within the last year involving at least two of the following activities:

All assessors must have a sound working knowledge of the content of the standards they are assessing and their assessment requirements. All assessors will either hold the relevant qualification of national occupational standards or have a development plan indicating progress towards that qualification. Successful applicants for the course will be entitled to the provision of guided learning hours that will normally include an initial workshop followed by negotiated one-to-one sessions with a candidate assessor. These sessions will assist the collection of evidence for assessment and subsequent claiming of the award.

Applicants will be invited to attend an interview with the course tutor.
Assessment:
You will need to provide evidence of your performance and knowledge for your assessor to judge. Your assessor will directly observe work-based material, or your performance in the workplace as well as other sources of evidence. Your knowledge and understanding of the award should be integrated with the assessment of your performance wherever possible.
Career Options:
Students who successfully complete the course will be qualified to work as an assessor of candidates working towards NVQs in early years, playwork, care or education.
