Is the course for me?
The Level 2 DIPLOMA in Brickwork is designed to prepare you to enter the industry in your chosen craft, or just to gain a better understanding and appreciation. The DIPLOMA has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions and the test(s) are based on you showing what you can do as an individual through the completion of all requirements for the qualification. On completion of the programme you will have gained the skills and confidence to carry out safe working practices in Brickwork. You should also have knowledge of quantities, ability to interpret working drawings, set out masonry structure and know how to build a range of walling.
What will I learn?
You will be expected to show competences, which involve the application of knowledge and skills in a significant range of varied work activities, performed in a variety of contexts. Some of the activities you encounter will be complex or non-routine and there is some individual responsibility and autonomy. Collaboration with others, perhaps through a work group or team, may often be a requirement. Level 2 covers: Health & Safety. Using Information and Communicating Techniques including Calculations. Knowledge of Building Methods & Technology. Interpret Working Drawings to Set Out Masonry Structures. Thin Joint Walls. Solid Walling with Isolated and Attached Piers. Build Cavity Walling forming Masonry Structures. Key Skills (Communication & Number)
How will I be assessed?
All the necessary knowledge will be covered for you to become skilled in Brickwork. Your progress shall be continually assessed and you are given instant feedback, ensuring that your skills are developing. An evaluation of your progress and work will come from: Practical Assessments / Job Related Written Assessments at the end of each unit / External tests are on-line computer based examinations for all areas of assessment / Key Skills Assessment.
What can I do after the course?
Convert your Level II DIPLOMA into NVQ Level 2 by gaining employment and completing Work Based Evidence on site. This is currently programmed for 1 hour per month - over one year. If this route is chosen and submission of the approproriate and applicable Work Based Evidence is generated, the Level II DIPLOMA will be converted to an NVQ Level II qualification. Progression onto NVQ Level 3, pending suitability.
