British Horse Society Stage 1 riding training programme. This part of the training programme may be taken with the stable management or separately. It is aimed at improving your skills at a basic level, ensuring a good foundation for future progress.
What qualifications will I need?
Riding ' learners must be able to walk, trot and canter unassisted and be able to walk and trot without stirrups. Minimum age 14 yrs. We have a weight limit of 13.5Stones
Stable Management ' enthusiasm to learn.
What will I be learning about?
Riding:
- Working to improve balance and security
- Mounting, dismounting and checking tack
- Working both with and without stirrups
- Developing the jumping position
- Working over trot poles
Stable Management:
- Horse behaviour
- Basic grass care
- Watering and feeding
- Foot and shoeing
- Grooming
- Clothing
- Saddlery
- Anatomy and handling
- Horse health
Where will it take me?
Progression onto Stage 2
What materials are required?
Correct smart clothing ' jodhpurs, boots, current standard hat, gloves, short whip. Hairnet for long hair.
What is next?
BHS Stage 2
How will I be assessed?
There is an opportunity to take a mock exam. Entry to BHS exams should be directly to the British Horse Society
