About this course

You must be able to use your hands and arms flexibly. You must be able to watch the tutor's facial gestures so that you can imitate them as well as use your hands to sign.

Course description
The Level 1 BSL qualification is a practical, social related course to provide knowledge, understanding and skills for learners wishing to enter a career where good basic Sign Language communication is required.
A CACDP Certificate in basic BSL is suitable for all who have a desire to work or communicate at a basic level with Deaf People who use British Sign Language / Signed Supported English as their preferred mode of communication.
The Course is made up of 3 units - YOU are required to study ALL units and pass the three assessments to gain the full qualification. However, each unit passed, learners can be awarded a certificate for their achievement but need to contact CACDP themselves for any individual unit they have passed.
The recommended learning time is 50 hours as shown below:
For Unit BSL 101 - Introduction to BSL 10 hours
For Unit BSL 102 - Conversational BSL 20 hours
For Unit BSL 103 - BSL at School, College or Work 20 hours
The examinations will be taken after each unit's recommended learning time and at the discretion of the tutor.

CACDP British Sign Language Level 1
The Course is assessed by 3 taped assessments and undertaken with your the Course Tutor. All three units will be recorded on VIDEO or DVD Minidisc, which will be sent to CACDP.
Certificates are issued to successful learners. Learners can be awarded a certificate for each unit, BUT must pass all units to obtain the full qualification.If learners only pass one or two of the units and want a certificate for each of them, they must contact CACDP themselves.
