This introductory course serves as the first step on the ladder of self-development/counselling courses. You will learn how to listen to others and yourself and to cope better with difficult emotions, situations and people. You will be expected to undertake learning through working with other students in pairs and small groups. The course is designed to develop your ability to accept and empathise with other people. You will be allocated individual tutorial time.

This course provides an excellent grounding in the basics, looking in particular at the Client-Centred and Psychodynamic models. It combines elements of theory, skills practice and personal experience.
