Course Summary:
The Part-time Level 2 Childcare and Education Diploma at Nescot will teach you the basics of how to care for and support children up to the age of 16 years. The skills will be taught in classroom lessons and in a variety of childcare settings.

This course will help you to know how to care for children and to gain a certificate, which will enable you to work in a range of jobs. The course will include:

• Learning about how children and young people grow and develop
• Ways to help children learn
• Working with parents and other people in childcare

The placements include:

• Schools
• Day nurseries
• Nursery schools

Course Details:
There are three parts to this qualification, the Award, the Certificate and the Diploma. The Level 2 Diploma is the full qualification. To gain this you must first gain the Award and the Certificate. You will need the Diploma to be able to practise as a nursery assistant.

Modules/units need to be included as follows:

The Award
Unit 1: An introduction to working with children
Unit 2: The developing child

The Certificate
Unit 3: Safe, healthy and nurturing environments for children
Unit 4: Children and play
Unit 5: Communication and professional skills within childcare and education.

These units are assessed by assignments and a short answer test based on a seen case study.

The Diploma
Unit 6: The childcare practitioner in the workplace (390 hours practical training in a placement)
Unit 7: One optional unit.

These units are assessed by assignments and a short-answer test.

Career Progression:
Today there is a high demand for paid child care.

Your qualification will enable you to work as:

• Nursery assistant
• Pre-school assistant
• Crche assistant
• Nanny

You can go on to train further for the Level 3 Award / Certificate / Diploma in Childcare and Education, or while working for the NVQ Level 3.
