Course aims:
Are you Employed in a Childcare Setting? Do you already hold a Level 2 qualification? Do you wish to develop your job prospects and maybe even progress in to a senior role? Then this could be the course for you.
The NVQ Level 3 in Childrens Care, Learning and Development will provide you with a recognised qualification, which will allow you to work within the Childcare setting as a Nursery Nurse, a qualified Nanny or even work aboard as a childrens reprehensive.
You will gain the skills required to allow you to feel comfortable applying for senior Childcare positions, or move onto Higher Education at University.

Facilities for students:
All learners will have full access to the college facilities.

Tutors:
We are very lucky in the Childcare Department as we have an excellent team of assessor who have had experience from various settings. They bring this experience into their workshops - making the lessons come alive

Assessment: You will gather evidence and develop a portfolio.
The portfolio will contain:
  • Observation - completed by your assessor, these are planned before the assessment is carried out in order to make sure that you well prepared.
  • Written questions completed by you.
  • Reflections on practise.
  • Witness testimonys from your Supervisor or Manager

Entry Requirements:
You should already hold the NVQ 2 in Childrens Care Learning and Development.
You must already be employed in a nursery setting or group setting that follows the EYFS for at least three days a week, totalling over 18 hours contact with children.
Students should already be a Key Person and be involved in nursery planning, attending staff meetings and be active in contributing to the day to day running of the setting.

Interview for entry: Interview required

Pre-entry preparation:
You should start the course with a good knowledge of current developments within the industry - this could be obtained from the Nursery World Magazine.

Progression and links:
Once you have completed the NVQ 3 you can go on to study the Early Years FdA.
If you decide to continue with employment you can gain senior positions as a Nursery Nurse, Nursery Practioner, Nanny or any job that asks for a qualified Nursery Nurse.

Work experience opportunities:
You must be employed in a Nursery setting or a setting that follows the EYFS.

Qualification in Context and Future Opportunities: You may be able to progress onto Higher Education.

If you are under 19 on 31st August 2009 you do not have to pay Tuition Fees, the College Registration, Awarding Body Registration or Exam/Assessment Fees. However, you will have to pay any Resource Fees. Under 19s entering Higher Education will have to pay full costs.
