About this course

Students will ideally have IT/keyboard skills to Intermediate level and be familiar with the Windows/command line environment. A background in networking would be an advantage but is not essential. Holders of Cisco IT Essentials Certificate or a Networking Level 2 or 3 Certificate would be ideal.

Is the course for me?
The aim of this two year programme is to provide students with the knowledge and practical skills to design build and maintain computer networks both LAN and WAN. Specifically in module 1 students will learn networking fundamentals and be introduced to the command line interface of routers and switches.

What will I learn?
This module will see students using network protocol models to explain the layers of communications in data networks. Designing calculating and applying subnet masks and addresses within a network. Building a simple Ethernet network using routers and switches. Employing basic cabling and network designs to connect devices. Using Cisco CLI commands to perform basic router and switch configuration and verification. Analyse the operations and feature of the transport and network layer protocols and services.

How will I be assessed?
The curriculum is delivered through a combination of on-line exams and hands-on class assessments.

CCNA - Semester 2.
