Summary:
City College Norwich is a Cisco Systems Networking Academy. The course starts at an introductory level, and is divided into four teaching semesters. It focuses on how to install, configure, and operate simple-routed LAN, routed WAN and switched LAN networks. Following this course of instruction you will be prepared to sit the external CCNA exam. Note this exam is not part of this course and needs to be arranged on an individual basis with an approved test centre.

Core Skills:
The Cisco Networking Academies program is designed to teach students the skills needed to build, configure and maintain small to medium-sized networks. The curriculum is practical-oriented, supported by the Cisco computer-aided training package. Semester 1: Networking standards; the OSI reference model; MAC addressing; IP addressing; subnetting; TCP/IP functions; network design; equipment. Semester 2: TCP/IP; routers and router functions; Cisco IOS operating system; equipment configuration; network efficiency; routing protocols; network security. Semester 3: Advanced network design and routing; LAN segmentation; equipment configuration; virtual LANs; Fast Ethernet; switching networks. Semester 4: DHCP; NAT; PAT; WAN services; Frame Relay; PPP operations; equipment configuration; ISDN; broadband; design and implementation.
Academic Progression:
Following successful completion of the external CCNA exam students can undertake the Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP). This qualification teaches advanced networking concepts.
