Course Overview Brush up your English classes help learners improve their literacy skills. Classes are available for beginners up to level 2 (GCSE level). Reading, writing, spelling and speaking and listening skills are covered. All classes are free and are available at Newbury College or in local centres in the Newbury area.

Qualification gained: All learners work towards a qualification. City and Guilds or Open College Network (OCN) qualifications are available at each level.

Course Content: Each term the teacher and learner talk about what the learner needs to work on. A plan for the term is then decided upon. Each learner works at their own pace and take a qualification when they are ready. Classes are small and friendly and often have a volunteer who also helps in the class.

Work Experience: There is no work experience on this course.

Course Assessment: All learners are asked to come for an interview to find out what level they are working at. They can then join the most suitable class. Learners may be asked to do an assessment during the interview or when they join the class.

Progression: Learners can progress through the different literacy levels. They can also progress onto other College courses or to work.

Homework: There is no homework involved unless requested by the learner.

Additional Costs: There are no additional costs.
