Course Overview This course aims to develop an understanding of the principles of healthy eating and the role of food in maintaining health. It provides increased confidence in planning and achieving a health diet together with an understanding of how an individuals dietary requirements change throughout their life. The qualification offers awareness of the dietary requirements of particular individuals and an understanding of food labelling. Parents, carers, catering staff and students may find this course of particular benefit. The duration of the course is 90 guided learning hours. Study is at your own pace, normally 3-4 months. The day and time of your tutorials will be drawn up with your tutor to create your individual action plan. This course is Distance Learning, your tutor will visit you either at your place of work, or at Newbury College if you would prefer.

Qualification gained: NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Nutrition & Health.

Course Content: Unit one: Exploring the Principals of Nutrition and Health which consists of: healthy diet, the five food groups, nutrients and health, principles of a healthy diet, healthy food preparation. Unit two: Consider the needs of a variety of individuals which include tasks: nutritional needs of adults, children, adolescents and older people; special dietary requirements; barriers to healthy eating. Unit three: Use food and nutritional information to plan a healthy diet which contains: food labelling;how to interpret nutritional claims on food labels; food additives; interesting facts about nutrition; key food related issues.

Course Assessment: Assessment is through a series of questions found in the candidates workbook. These are completed at the end of each unit. These assessments are tutor marked and moderated by the awarding body.

Additional Costs: If you are not eligible for public funds, the full cost of the course is 493.
