About this course

You must have successfully completed a level 3 counselling qualification and that a counselling placement is established and supervised professionally. Applicants must be aged 20 or over, have a clear CRB check and successful interview.

Part Time Higher Professional Diploma in Counselling

Course Description:
The Higher Professional Diploma in Counselling is a level 4 NVQ City and Guilds qualification. The aim of this programme is to provide a high quality counselling course suitable for counsellors who are wanting to or are working professionally as a counsellor. This programme is therefore very suitable for continuing professional development and for preparation towards undertaking degree programmes in counselling.

Content
The course is unit based and all 11 units must be successfully completed to achieve the qualification. The course is made up of 3 blocks of work each having units of study.

Block A has 6 units:

- Counselling theory (double unit) - Counselling skills - Personal development - Professional development - Supervision - Client work

Block B has 3 units chosen by the college from a list of different counselling approaches.

Block C has 2 units chosen by the college from a list of different counselling groups and settings.

Each unit has an assignment attached to it.

Assessment and Progression:
Each unit of the programme has its own specific assessment to be passed. There is no final written examination and candidates must attend at least 80% of the 2 year course.
