What qualifications will I need?
An interest in horses! Minimum age 14 yrs. Tetanus protection is recommended.

What will I be learning about?
  • Fitting horse tack and boots
  • Working out rationing for horse feeds
  • How to look after your grazing
  • Various types of bedding and their advantages and disadvantages
  • Recognising injuries and how to treat them
  • Designing stable routines for your horses
  • Shoeing

Where will it take me?
This is the second of four British Horse Society progressive horse knowledge and care courses run at Kingston Maurward College. This is a vocational interest course. Content of the course links well with many aspects of the BHS Stage 2 exam.

What materials are required?
File, paper and pens. Appropriate clothing for the time of year for working outdoors. Yard boots or jodhpur boots are acceptable on the yard.

Horse Owners Certificate Level 3

How will I be assessed?
There is a short written paper at the end of the course to achieve the Horse Owners Certificate.
