What qualifications will I need?
An interest in horses! Minimum age 14 yrs. Tetanus protection is recommended.
What will I be learning about?
- Fitting horse tack and boots
- Working out rationing for horse feeds
- How to look after your grazing
- Various types of bedding and their advantages and disadvantages
- Recognising injuries and how to treat them
- Designing stable routines for your horses
- Shoeing
Where will it take me?
This is the second of four British Horse Society progressive horse knowledge and care courses run at Kingston Maurward College. This is a vocational interest course. Content of the course links well with many aspects of the BHS Stage 2 exam.
What materials are required?
File, paper and pens. Appropriate clothing for the time of year for working outdoors. Yard boots or jodhpur boots are acceptable on the yard.

How will I be assessed?
There is a short written paper at the end of the course to achieve the Horse Owners Certificate.
