What qualifications will I need?
This qualification is ideally suited for those candidates who have a genuine interest and passion in the care and welfare of horses.
What will I be learning about?
Horses that seem to be constantly living on their nerves can be difficult to handle and dangerous to ride. We look at what makes them behave this way and how we can help them adapt this behaviour and think about things differently. This is followed by practical exercises on how to introduce your horse to walking over tarpaulin, umbrellas, plastics bags on a stick and other scary objects. The purpose of this is to de'sensitise them to their environment and what happens immediately around them. We discuss physiological terms such as flooding and latent learning and what an important part they play when asking your horse to deal with and understand these stimuli.
What is involved?
Part time, one Saturday.
What is next?
- Further Alternative Horsemanship units,
- BHS specialist equine courses,
- BTEC National Diploma in Horse Studies
- Foundation Degree Equine Behaviour and Welfare.
How will I be assessed?
A College Certificate will be awarded through a Register of attendance.
How much will it cost?
