Course Overview This course is aimed at learners who have no experianece of cutting hair. Covering both male and female styles, this practical course will provide a basic introdution to the use of hair clippers and scissors. Learners need to bring the following to the first class: writing materials
Qualification gained: This course does not lead to a formal qualification.
Course Content: The first week will be mainly theory, with a general introduction to the basics, identifying hazards and risks and recognising how to work safely. The following weeks will cover: Week 2: Practical: Combing, sectioning, palming and small trims on long hair Week 3: Basic long trim, further sectioning and cutting lines Week 4: Bob cut; layer sectioning, cutting straight lines Week 5: Graduated long layers; the use of guidelines, tension and accurate cutting Week 6: Basic short layer cut including fringe Week 7: Softening, texturising basic haircuts and fringes Week 8: Gents'/boys' basic haircuts and correct finishing Week 9: Clipper cuts to include blending and finishing (can bring own model) Week 10: Free format with learners focusing on preferred elements of course (can bring own model) Handouts will be given out each week to reinforce and remind students about the topics covered during class time.
Course Assessment: Progress on this course will be tested through practical tasks, peer feedback, and tutor observation.
Progression: Learners can progress to other hair and beauty courses including qualification courses.
Homework: Homework is not essential but learners will benefit from undertaking practice at home
Additional Costs: Learners have to provide their own equipment. Various hairdressing equipment items will need to be purchased during the course. The total cost will be approximately 65.00 including VAT and can be purchased from any major hairdressing supplier. Exact requirements will be discussed during the first lesson.

- Fees quoted with the course information are for the current academic year. Fees for the next academic year starting in September are subject to change and will be confirmed annually.
- Part Time Course Fee Relate to Year 1 course fees only. Two year course fees will have an additional course fee for the second year; these fees are subject to confirmation annually.
