Management Level 4 NVQ
The Management level 4 qualification is aimed at individuals with significant personal responsibility and autonomy in their management role, who have the ability and the opportunity to demonstrate recognisable management and leadership skills, for example managing business processes, developing and implementing operational plans, leading, planning and implementing change, managing finance, providing learning opportunities. Individuals may find that the focus of their work is more to do with managing projects, or with technical matters, than with people. To achieve full certification of the NVQ, 8 units must be completed and assessed as competent. Portfolios are internally and externally verified to ensure that standards have been met.

Entry Requirements:
Candidates must hold a suitable position in the workplace, either in a full time or part time capacity.

Entry Process:
Telephone interview followed by assessor visit to workplace to ascertain suitability of job role.

Assessment:
Continual, local assessment, followed by internal and external verification. Candidates will build a portfolio of evidence, demonstrating their competence to meet a range of performance criteria on several occasions over a period of several months. The Assessor will carry out assessment whilst at the workplace, through professional discussion, observation and examination of product evidence. Personal accounts written by the candidate and witness statements from colleagues and supervisors will also contribute to the portfolio.

Progression Routes:
Candidates could progress to level 5 NVQ in Management if promotion opportunities present, or take a more academic route, such as level 5 HNC Business and Management, distance learning course. The Institute of Leadership and Management also offers Diplomas in Management at a range of levels through various providers. See the ILM website for details.

Career Options:
Managers will evidence their capability by completing the NVQ which could lead to promotion within their current workplace, or elsewhere.
